Making a Positive Impact – it’s a team effort

We always strive to positively impact the places we call home.

At Ennismore, we think of ourselves as neighbours that are part of the community – not just another business. And as neighbours, we want to do our part to tackle some of the problems people in the community might face. From the small things that brighten someone’s day to giving back and supporting causes close to our hearts, making a positive impact – one of our core values – is also our collective programme of charitable projects and activities that extend our hospitality to those who can’t access it.

Whether local or global, there is myriad of ways we support your communities. Here we round up just a few ways our teams have pitched in to support our communities:

We’re in the business of putting a roof over heads and a bed for the night and believe everyone deserves that as a basic need. In the last year, the cost of living in many countries has soared, leading to rising numbers of homelessness. Shelters provide more than just a warm bed for the night; they’re also a vital steppingstone for getting people on the road to better days, with resources dedicated to finding employment and education, health and legal advice, emotional support and helping to secure long-term accommodation. Unfortunately, in a time when shelters rely upon more than ever, many are collapsing due to escalating operational costs.

To help ease some of the pressure placed on shelters, our teams have supported by donating much-needed supplies and their time in their local communities. From donation drives that bring in everything from long-life foods, hygiene products, clothes, and blankets, to cooking up a storm in the kitchens and building new sleeping pods in the dorm rooms, they’ve offered a helping hand to give shelter guests a more comfortable stay.

Some properties went a step further. The Hoxton’s hotels strengthen its support of the homeless communities in and around its neighbourhoods through their Stay for a Stay initiative – a simple idea where for every Jan & Feb stay this year booked directly with the Hox, they covered the cost of a stay in a local homeless shelter – and their restaurants added (an optional) £1 on the bill to raise much-needed funds.

In the last year, the people of Ukraine have gone through the unthinkable, with many people displaced from their homes. As well as monetary donations, our hotels across Europe, including 25hours and Mama Shelter, have supported Ukrainian people and their relatives by providing shelter to refugees and collecting food and clothes to donate. Items were even delivered directly into Ukraine by one of our team members!

Taking to the streets, our team members have spruced up our neighbourhoods through coordinated street sweeps and helped to brighten the days of those who’ve fallen on hard times by delivering Breakfast Bags and smiles during morning walks.

Looking to the future, some teams chose to work with local initiatives focusing on the social and educational inclusion of children and young adults with disabilities or who are less fortunate. SLS properties in Miami and Dubai have provided school supplies and worked with organisations that provide treatment, advocacy, and coordination of services with a healing environment for all forms, whilst team members at 21c Museum Hotel provide ongoing mentorship support to economically disadvantaged males through secondary education and beyond. These programmes have helped ensure every child has the tools needed to succeed.

The simple act of bringing joy to children living in poverty during the holiday season is also way in which the TRIBE team contributed to their local community. In London, they supplied an abundance of toys to a local toy appeal and wrote letters to the kids from the one and only Santa. Their time and donations meant one less child would go without and continue to keep that childhood spark of imagination alive.

We want to shout out to everyone who did their bit – whether it was directly sheltering people or donating – we are proud of what we have achieved together as Ennismore to enrich the lives of those in our local communities.
