Making Every Drop Count – Shaping a Water-Responsible Future

World Water Day served as an important reminder of the need to protect one of our planet’s most vital resources.

Reducing water consumption is a core part of our ESG strategy, and we are proud to share the progress we’ve made across our portfolio. By the end of 2025, we achieved a 5.8% reduction in water intensity compared to 2024, surpassing our annual target. Water intensity—measured as the volume of water used per occupied room—remains a key metric in driving meaningful change.

Across our properties, a range of initiatives are helping us reduce water usage while maintaining a high-quality guest experience; these actions are part of our broader commitment to responsible resource management and reducing our environmental impact. By combining innovation, operational improvements, and guest engagement, we continue to make measurable progress towards achieving our sustainability goals.  Below are a few examples of our initiatives.

Our Initiatives

  • Improving efficiency by installing flow-rate restrictors to reduce water usage without compromising comfort
  • Training our teams on how to use less water in their day-to-day activities
  • Minimising evaporation through the use of pool covers, helping to retain water in swimming pools
  • Enhancing landscaping practices by introducing drought-tolerant plants and using targeted irrigation systems instead of traditional sprinklers
  • Encouraging guest participation through optional towel and linen reuse programmes, which can reduce a room’s direct water consumption by 4–12% (based on a 2022 Quantis study)
  • Reusing water resources by implementing grey water recovery systems, allowing water from showers and laundry to be treated and reused

Driving Impact

We’re proud to spotlight a few of our hotels that delivered outstanding results in reducing water intensity in 2025.

Roberto Leonardi, General Manager at The Hoxton Shepherds Bush, shared:
“We’re encouraged to see such a meaningful reduction in water consumption without any compromise to the guest experience. It’s a great example of how thoughtful, team-driven initiatives can deliver real ESG impact while maintaining the high standards our guests expect. Successes like this reinforce that sustainability and service excellence can go hand in hand.”

Julien Lambert, General Manager at Mama Shelter Lille commented:
“Achieving this reduction is both rewarding and meaningful. It shows that we can successfully lower our environmental impact while maintaining the level of comfort and satisfaction our guests expect. It’s also very encouraging to see tangible ESG progress driven by both operational improvements and team engagement.”

Beyond operational improvements, purpose-driven partnerships also play an important role. 25hours Hotels continues its long-standing collaboration with Viva con Agua, supporting access to clean drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene worldwide. Through initiatives such as donating a portion of room revenue and “All for Water” drinks, they help extend impact beyond their properties.

Looking to 2026

While we’re proud of the progress made, we know there is more to do. Our target for 2026 is a further 2.3% reduction in water intensity compared to 2025.

To achieve this, our ESG team has:

  • Set individual water reduction targets for each hotel
  • Introduced monthly performance reporting to track progress
  • Implemented detailed water flow monitoring, enabling teams to identify inefficiencies and optimise usage

By combining data-driven insights with on-the-ground action, we’re continuing to drive measurable progress toward more sustainable operations.
