Mama Shelter opens in Dijon, France

Housed in a historic 1960s brutalist building, Mama Shelter Dijon is the brand’s 10th Hotel in France and its 18th in the world.

Overlooking the Saint-Bénigne cathedral and Burgundian vineyards, the 120-room property captures the essence of the surrounding landscapes and invites it into the walls of Mama. The property’s black and white carpeting is designed by Lila Mercier and represents Burgundian vineyards, and the patterns and colours on the caning on the headboards represent the glazed roofs found in buildings around Dijon.

In the public spaces, the lobby and restaurant have been transformed into works of art, with decorated frescoes by Beniloys, and golden ceramics by Arnold du Bazar d’Alger, a graphic artist, all of which compliment the cut-out silkscreens by Atelier Bingo. Mama’s signature restaurant serves up tasty, local cuisines such as charcoal grilled meats, signature cocktails, and classic Mama Dishes, which guests can also enjoy on two outdoor areas: the veranda terrace and the planted patio.

Another highlight is Mama Shelter’s CineMama, the hotel’s very own private 28-seat cinema where guests can hold private screenings or video conferences, as well as two karaoke bars, four meeting rooms and a petanque court.

Surrounded by rolling countryside where some of the world’s most famous vineyards call home, Dijon has plenty to offer visitors and locals alike, including remarkable architecture and exceptional cuisine – Included on the UNESCO World Heritage List, Dijon is the International City of Gastronomy and Wine due to its unique culinary traditions and Burgundy vineyards. From exceptional vintage wines to small dishes, everything is a pretext for rejoicing and sharing. Guest at Mama Shelter Dijon can even bring home a taste of region with Mama’s very own mustard, created in collaboration with family-run, independent company, Edmond Fallot.

In Dijon, Mama has found a city that shares the same values of warm hospitality, festivity, and enjoyment. Mama Dijon hijacks the strong symbols of this wine region with humour, impertinence and respect to reveal it to its French and foreign guests.
