The Hoxton, Southwark swings open its doors

The Hoxton, Southwark has now opened its doors on Blackfriars Road, with 192 rooms, buzzy communal spaces, all-day dining spot Albie, and a stunning seafood rooftop restaurant, Seabird.

A 14-storey new-build property, The Hoxton, Southwark is located on the south side of Blackfriars Bridge, a stone’s throw from the South Bank and Borough, surrounded by some of the city’s best galleries, museums, theatres and food markets. Coming as the eighth property in series, The Hoxton, Southwark sees the brand back on familiar ground with its third hotel in London, the city where it all began.

The 192 rooms come in five categories: Shoebox, Snug, Cosy, Roomy and Biggy. Rooms are full of natural light with large Crittall-style windows showing off views of the city. Industrial features like concrete ceilings and bare brick walls contrast with luxurious touches in the form of velvet ruby headboards, comfy lounge chairs, and handmade glassware — a nod to the glass-blowing and tannery factories that once occupied the area. Statement brass lighting by Chelsom echoes the factory-inspired interiors whilst art in every room, curated by Jealous Gallery, and books selected by Hox Friends add more local personality.

The open-plan communal spaces draw inspiration from Southwark’s eclectic, industrial past. Tiling patterns and textiles echo the shapes seen in the architecture in the neighbourhood, with theatrical touches reflecting the prominence of Southwark’s local theatres. Antique and bespoke furniture has been sourced from British makers and the eclectic art collection was curated in collaboration with Project On Walls, with a focus on emerging British talent.

With The Hoxton, Southwark comes two new restaurants to try. There’s Albie, an all-day dining spot on the ground floor with a menu drawing inspiration from the French and Italian Riviera. Dishes are made for family-style sharing, accompanied by a forward-thinking drinks list featuring biodynamic wines and adaptogens.

Perched on the 14th floor sits Seabird, boasting an impressive raw bar, London’s longest oyster list and panoramic views of the city. The menu features an array of sea-to-table offerings inspired by the Mediterranean. To bring Seabird to life, The Hoxton partnered with Premiere Enterprises, founded by the James Beard Award-winning duo behind Maison Premiere.

Just like the other hotels in the series, The Hoxton, Southwark will be deeply rooted in the community and launches with an opening month jam-packed with events. Guests and neighbours are encouraged to come along – with design talks, craft workshops, plant swaps, DJ sets, art exhibitions, pop-up shops, and more. In the lobby, you can shop our Best of London range, featuring limited edition products created in collaboration with some of the city’s best artisans and makers – from CBD roll-ons by Graces London, to tea towels by House of Cally, to clothing and accessories by RIXO, Wax London, Tottenham Textiles, Blackhorse Denim and SCRT.
